How I built a Newsletter to 28K Subscribers in Only 7 Months!

Publishing a newsletter on LinkedIn allows you to engage directly with your professional network, increasing your visibility, as well as establishing and positioning you as a respected authority within your industry.

Newsletters on LinkedIn encourage interaction through likes, comments, and shares, helping to build your connections with other industry professionals.

Whenever you publish your newsletter, your subscribers receive an email from LinkedIn notifying them that you have just published your latest newsletter.

LinkedIn also provides analytics to help you track the performance of your newsletter as well as refine your content strategy to improve your engagement.

Steps I used to publish my newsletter that grew to 28K Subscribers in only 7 months.

  1. When considering a name or title for your newsletter, think about your target audience, what interests them and what would they search for?

  2. Remember that just like Google, YouTube etc, that LinkedIn is also a search engine that relies on keywords, therefore, you should research the monthly search volumes for keywords to be used in the title of your newsletter.

  3. Use wordtracker.com to research the search volumes and shortlist your keywords for your title.

  4. Make the commitment to manitain and even build interest in your newsletter by your audience by publishing your newsletter on a weekly basis.

  5. Write a list of the different topics related to the interests of your audience that you can write about. Ask Google or Chat GPT to give you further ideas.

  6. Make a note to write down all ideas for newsletter topics that come to mind at any time.

  7. Don’t just publish a text only newsletter, make sure you include images to generate increased impact and interest.

  8. Try to write your newsletters so they can be read in less than 5 minutes, less than 3.5 minutes words works best for me!

  9. When you publish your newsletter, the more interaction your newsletter receives, the LinkedIn algorithm will push it out to a wider audience, so you should share the link to your newsletter with a few connections who are happy for you to do so. Also try to reply to comments on your newsletter as quickly as possible, especially within the 1st hour or 2 of it being published.

  10. Each of my newsletters use the following basic formula for the layout.

  •  Headline/Title,

  •  Introduction,

  •  Benefits,

  •  Bullet points based on benefits,

  •  Summary,

  •  Sign off.
