When your audience, including people interested in what you offer, first open up your LinkedIn profile, your headline stands out and creates a 1st impression about you.
Your headline is an important part of the optimisation of your profile and let’s just say that there are many headlines out there that could be improved.
So here are a few important steps to apply to really make your headline stand out for all the right reasons.
1.) Your headline should include upto 3 of your preferred keywords. Research your keyword search volume at wordtracker.com
2.) Your headline should use as many of the 220 characters as possible.
3.) Your headline should be all about W,I,I,F,T. (What’s In It For Them) What’s in it for your audience, give them a reason to want to read further!
4.) When your making a comment, or replying to a comment on a post, a portion of your headline will display, this is your opportunity to increase awareness about what you do or offer. Therefore the 1st line of your headline should be based on a benefit to your audience.
A proven headline template you can use to begin creating your headline.
Start with
I help X (add your target audience) achieve Y (add their most desired result) with Z (add your process, product or area of expertise) (add social proof if possible)
Note: (Maximum headline length is 220 characters including spaces)
Finally, here is a platform that I have used for years to optimise literally hundreds of headlines. It’s called Sharethrough and you’ll find it
Sharethrough was originally developed so people could fine tune their headlines for their ads on Facebook, Google etc, and it’s very useful for ‘polishing’ and ‘fine tuning’ your LinkedIn profile headline.
Sharethrough uses a unique algorithm with over 300 variables. It will literally test and score your headline and provide you with
A Headline Quality Score
Detail your headline strengths and even provide suggestions.
An Engagement Score
An Impression Score.
A Context Words dictionary to help you improve your impression score.
It will also keep a history of your updates to your headline. So you can make minor changes and re – test or re – score your headline to see if your changes are progressing in the right or wrong direction.
Best of all, Sharethrough is FREE to use.
In summary, your updated LinkedIn profile headline is your opportunity to make better impression upon your audience when they 1st open up your profile.
Here's to your continued LinkedIn for business success starting with a stronger headline with an even bigger impact!
